E-Food riders took strike action across a number of cities in Greece on 12 February 2026.
The strikes in Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos and Kalamata followed stoppages on November 28-29.
The Attica union was one of several organisations representing riders which were behind the action. They demanded:
- A collective agreement and a wage increase
- A minimum guaranteed hourly wage, wage transparency, accident insurance and free PPE
- That those who want to become employees are made employees
- That the use of sub-contractors ends
E-Food is a brand of Delivery Hero, the German food delivery multi-national. In 2021 a historic strike took place at E-Food which led to the company reversing its decision to fire riders and re-hire them on a self-employed basis, but the subsequent introduction of anti-trade union laws in Greece has led to E-Food once again move some of it’s riders to a (bogus) self-employed model.
The unions also criticised the company’s decision to move to a seven-day work schedule for riders which are employed, a move that is only possible because of new anti-trade union laws.
The unions highlighted some successes of recent campaigning efforts, including that the company has changed its policy so that employees and freelancers can end their final delivery close to home, demonstrating the power of collective action to get results.
