The BNS platform workers’ union has been very active in proposing a draft law to the labour ministry. The ministry was very receptive to the BNS’ proposal but the employers’ organisation has now made it’s own proposals aimed at reducing worker protections, and some of those proposals may have ended in the ministry’s draft.
The current state of play is that the consultation process with social partners is complete, the ministry’s draft law is now being reviewed by other relevant ministries, at which point the final proposal will go out to public consultation before it goes before the Romanian parliament. The legislative process may be delayed due to an ongoing political crisis in the government.
