The Hungarian Government is not working on the transposition of the Platform Work Directive and there has been no consultation with social partners as of yet.
With elections having taken place in April 2026, it is expected that there will be progress on the transposition when the new government comes to power in June 2026.
The challenges in the transposition include that the Hungarian Supreme Court found in 2023 that a rider was self-employed, and that the League of Couriers has a lack of resources in pursuing its aims for employment status in the platform economy. Nonetheless, the League of Couriers is collaborating with other activist groups on this issue.
